WWOOF UK

WWOOFING...

I bet you are all thinking what is WWOOFING exactly? Well allow me to explain...

WWOOF is a membership charity and stands for World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms. You basically work with a registered WWOOF host for free; in return you receive food and accommodation. You can also WWOOF overseas, so it is a good opportunity if you like to travel as well!

Someone I know told me about WWOOF UK, so my boyfriend and I decided to give it a go as we had been finding it difficult to secure a placement for our course. It appeared to be a lot harder than it seemed. So, during the summer of 2014 we became 'wwoofer's'!

We both found it a very valuable experience as we got to do various creative projects such as willow work on a tepee and a living willow hedge. Another project was working on a dead hedging using branches from where be had been clearing other areas on the small holding. The branches were woven into a chicken wire fence. This was to stop the dog Bruce from getting out!

We also got to pick some Victoria plums, however this proved to be quite a challenge as the trees were quite tall, so some plums were hard to reach. The chickens were also being very curious around our feet after any plums that had dropped!
